Donetsk, Oct 8 – DAN. DPR People's Council has amended the law On Commemorating the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The amendments prohibit "equating and mixing the roles of Soviet defenders and liberators with those of occupants and persons found guilty by the Nuremberg tribunals".
The Chairman of the DPR Parliament Vladimir Bidyevka said that "some media regularly equate actions of the USSR and Germany in 1941-1945. The amendments to the law are aimed at protecting the memory of the Motherland defenders."
The law On Commemorating the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was adopted in May 2016 to protect and commemorate the memory of those who fought against the Nazi Germany. The document also bans nazi symbols in any form.
Russia has similar amendments to its laws adopted in June 2021. *ot
