Donetsk, Nov 2 — DAN. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law revoking the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

The document which came into effect on Thursday has been published on the official portal of legal acts.

The amendments to the federal law were co-authored by the parliament speaker, faction leaders and nearly all lawmakers.

“The revocation of the ratification mirrors the move by the United States which has not ratified the document for 23 years, ” parliament speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said. “The decision was made entirely in the interests of our country and our citizens.”

The head of state also signed a law canceling notification of the Council of Europe Secretary General about the introduction in Russia of a state of emergency or martial law. The decision follows up Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe in 2022.*jk
