Donetsk, Dec 15 — DAN. High-speed rail links will be built to Donetsk and Lugansk in the future, President Vladimir Putin said at the IV Congress of Railway Workers on Friday.
“In the future, we’ll certainly build them (high speed railroads — eds Donetsk News Agency) to Lugansk and Donetsk, ” he said noting that the new railroads would run across the territories where 111 million people live or 80 percent of the country’s population.
The president earlier said that the restoration of railways in the new regions and the development of high-speed rail were among the priorities.
Double track high-speed railroads use trains travelling at more than 200 kilometers per hour. Russia has no high-speed rail networks yet; the first such railroad will connect Moscow and St Petersburg.*jk
