Donetsk, Dec 18 — DAN. President Vladimir Putin has submitted documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to register as a candidate in Russia’s next presidential election.
“Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, you have submitted a complete set of documents for nomination; you’ve presented it personally as the law requires, ” CEC member Konstantin Mazurovsky told the Russian leader during the procedure live streamed on TASS’ Telegram channel.
The head of state was the first to submit documents for registration as a presidential candidate. The procedure began at 16:36 and ended at 16:41.
At the weekend, a group of voters unanimously supported Putin’s self-nomination for the presidential election in March 2014. On Sunday, “United Russia” Congress participants in Moscow supported the incumbent president’s self-nomination unanimously, too. Donetsk People’s Republic Head Denis Pushilin told DAN before the beginning of the Congress that Donbass was ready to vote in the presidential election.
Under the law, Russian citizens can self-nominate for the presidential election starting December 7. A candidate has to request the CEC to register the voter group which was created to support his or her self-nomination by 18:00, Moscow time, December 27. If a candidate is nominated by a political party the decision is made by the party’s Congress, and has to be presented to the CEC not later than 18:00, January 1.*jk
