Moscow, Dec 18 — DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic Head Denis Pushilin, DPR parliament speaker Artyom Zhoga and Federation Council member from the Republic Natalia Nikonorova have been elected to United Russia’s General Council, a top governing body of the party.
The decision was made by the party’s Congress which is taking place in Moscow. General Council Secretary Andrey Turchak said that representatives of the new regions would increase the number of GC members to 200 from 170.
Pushilin is also joining the General Council’s presidium (executive committee) as a representative of the largest party branch in the new regions numbering 126,000 members, a United Russia source told the Donetsk News Agency.
The General Council is a permanent collective governing body of United Russia, renewable by at least 15 percent by the Congress. The GC members are elected by secret ballot.*jk
