Donetsk, Sep 21 - DAN. Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko insists on deploying UN peacekeepers in Donbass hoping that they will “mop up” the People’s Republics territories, DPR envoy to Minsk talks Denis Pushilin said on Thursday in comments on the Ukrainian leader’s United Nations speech on 20 September.

“The president who rejected the UN contingent to facilitate a peaceful conflict settlement just a few days ago, suddenly turned a “peace president,” Pushilin said. “He now insists on a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbass for restoring “justice and Ukrainian sovereignty”; but in actual fact, for mopping up the Republics’ territory by means of Blue Helmets.”

Poroshenko’s words on civilian deaths sound particularly cynical amidst the continuing Ukrainian forces aggression. “Alas, the Ukrainian government’s position has long caused neither doubts nor surprise. No contingent can substitute a political settlement, that is why we pin our hopes on the international community and remain committed to the peace process,” Pushilin said.
