Donetsk, Feb 13 – DAN. Well-known Greek opera singer Medeya Yassonidi plans to visit Donbass on 21-23 March to give free master classes on stage of the Donetsk State Academic Philharmonic Society.
“Famed singer Medeya Yassonidi will conduct voice training sessions on 21-23 March,” Philharmonic Society director general Aleksandr Paretskiy told Donetsk News Agency on Monday.
The lessons will be conducted in the Small hall. There is no limit to the number of participants; the hall can accommodate up to 60 people. Participants are alreay submitting applications. On March 25, Yassodini plans to perform at a concert marking the 90th birthdate of legendary cello player Mstislav Rostropovich, Paretskiy said.
“She’ll play the role of his spouse, outstanding opera singer Galina Vishnevskaya (soprano) and perform a few arias with the symphonic orchestra. Taking part in the concert together with the Greek singer will be cello players Gleb Stepanov from Moscow and Elena Shagun from Donetsk,” he added.
Medeya Yassodini was born in Ukraine. She graduated from Kiev Conservatoire specializing in piano and later from the Athens Conservatoire specializing in vocal studies. She worked as Concert Master at the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Athens Opera and at the Megaron Concert Hall. She sang the parts of Mimi (La Boheme), Aida, Leonora (Trovatore), Lisa (La Sonnambula) and Maddalena (Andre Chenier). Yassodini performs at Greek, Rumanian, Czech, German and Ukrainian opera houses. She has resided and worked in Greece since 1991. *jk
