Donetsk, Dec 28 — DAN. A court in the Donetsk People’s Republic has convicted a Ukrainian serviceman in absentia for using violence against Russian prisoners of war, the Investigative Committee (SK) reported on Thursday.

The court found Ukrainian army unit A-3160 deputy commander Sergei Burkovsky (callsign “Kiborg”) guilty of cruel treatment of civilians and hate-motivated crimes against Russian serviceman, and sentenced him to 16 years in a maximum security penitentiary, the SK said.

In the spring of 2022, Burkovsky beat up five captured Russian servicemen during their interrogation. He stabbed one of the POWS in the back with a knife, the investigator said.

The gunman was put on the international wanted list.

Earlier, a DPR court sentenced a Ukrainian Lieutenant-Colonel in absentia for actions that led to the death of an adolescent outside Mariupol last year.*jk
