Donetsk, Apr 25 — DAN. The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic has sentenced a Ukrainian marine to 22 years in prison for killing a civilian in Mariupol in March 2022, Russia’s Investigative Committee (SK) reported on Tuesday.
“The DPR Supreme Court said that the evidence gathered by the SK was sufficient for passing a guilty verdict in the case against Ukrainian serviceman Andrey Petrenko who served with the Ukrainian army’s 36th Separate Marine Brigade as sniper squad commander, ” the report said.
In March 2022, Petrenko, together with his colleagues, occupied an apartment in Mariupol. Having organized an observation post there, he fired a sniper rifle at a civilian who died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Petrenko was found guilty of cruel treatment of civilians, use of banned means and methods of warfare and hate murder, and sentenced to 22 years in a maximum security prison.*jk
