Donetsk, Oct 27 — DAN. A Donetsk People’s Republic court has sentenced a Ukrainian serviceman from the “Azov” Neo-Nazi group to 25 years in prison for killing a civilian in Mariupol in the spring of 2022, Russia’s Investigative Committee (SK) said on Friday.
“Yevgeny Savelyev was found guilty of cruel treatment of civilians, use of banned methods in armed conflict and hate murder, ” the SK said.
The investigator said that in March 2022, Savelyev who was manning a position on the eighth floor of an apartment building saw a man in Azovstalskaya Street. The man was a non-combatant and posed no threat to Ukrainian armed formations. However, Savelyev followed his commander’s order and fired his assault rifle at the civilian killing him.
Savelyev pleaded guilty to the crime. He was sentenced to 25 years in a maximum security penitentiary.*jk
