Donetsk, Aug 7 — DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic Supreme Court has sentenced a Ukrainian marine to 25 years in a maximum security prison for killing a Mariupol resident last year, the Investigative Committee (SK) press service reported on Monday.
“36th Marine Brigade serviceman Vasily Mikhailov was found guilty of banned means and methods of warfare and hate murder, ” the SK press service said.
In March 2022, Mikhailov kicked a civilian at least 15 times as he was interrogating him at a kindergarten in Mariupol. The man died of his wounds. To cover up the crime, Mikhailov, together with other Ukrainian gunmen dumped the body in a manhole and set it on fire.
Mikhailov interrogated and beat up other Mariupol civilians who held pro-Russian views. Investigators have established the identity of Ukrainian officers who issued orders to Mikhailov, the SK said.*jk
