Donetsk, May 12 - DAN. The Starokrymsky reservoir has begun to supply water to Mariupol in the test mode, city mayor Konstantin Ivaschenko told the Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.

“We’ve already begun to supply water from the Starokrymsky reservoir,” Ivaschenko said. “We’re testing residential areas water mains for leaks.”

The Starokrymsky Water Treatment Plant has been reconnected to the power grid which actually launched electricity supply to the city, he added.

A lack of centralized water supply is currently one of the most acute city problems. During the fighting in the city, residents used heating radiators, fire plugs and even drainage to get water. The situation improved after the liberation of the larger part of the city. Water delivery has been arranged for the population since. Several dozen tons of water are delivered to Mariupol daily.

Mariupol is the largest city on the Sea of Azov coast, a key Donbass metallurgy center and seaport. Clashes for Mariupol began on February 25; the city was fully blocked in the course of the fighting and then cleared of the invaders. At present, the surviving gunmen of the neo-Nazi “Azov” formation (the organization banned in the DPR) are blocked in the Azovstal plant industrial zone. *jk
