Donetsk, Jul 1 — DAN. The lawyer of foreign mercenary Saadun Brahim who was sentenced to death in the Donetsk People’s Republic has lodged an appeal, the DPR Supreme Court press service told the Donetsk News Agency on Friday.

“Saadun Brahim’s cassation appeal has been submitted, ” the press service said.

Earlier, Brahim’s lawyer Yelena Vesnina told DAN that she would insist in the appeal that her client had been influenced by Ukrainian propaganda because of his young age, which  distorted his view of Donbass. The fact was Brahim previously had not participated in armed conflicts is an important point, the lawyer said.

On June 9, the DPR Supreme Court Appeals Chamber sentenced to death three foreign mercenaries who had fought for Kiev.   British nationals Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin and Moroccan citizen Saadun Brahim served with the Ukrainian army’s 36th Separate Marine Brigade and participated in fighting in Donbass against the DPR, for which they received remuneration. They were charged under three articles of the DPR Criminal Code: coup or retention of power by force, mercenarism and training for terrorist activity. The above crimes were committed by a group of persons.

Pinner’s lawyer lodged an appeal on June 28. Aslin’s lawyer plans to appeal within the next few days.

The hearing the case under cassational procedure is held within two months from the date of sending the case to appellate court. The case goes to appellate court after all the procedural requirements have been met in accordance with the DPR law.*jk
