Donetsk, Jun 21 — DAN. The city of Mariupol in the Donetsk People’s Republic has received a modernized tram from Nizhny Novgorod and plans to launch a tram upgrade facility, deputy head of the Mariupol administration Bogdan Perepechai told the Donetsk News Agency on Wednesday.

“The tram from Nizhny Novgorod was delivered in the morning; more deliveries are planned, ” Perepechai said. “A tram modernization plant will be launched in Mariupol under the aegis of the Industry and Trade Ministry.”

The supplied vehicle features upgraded undercarriage, body and interior. “Pre-launch procedures are underway, I believe we’ll put it into service in a couple of days, ” he said.

The tram has sophisticated electronic hardware. Another facility for modernizing the tram fleet will be set up in Donetsk, the official said.

On May 2, President Vladimir Putin took part in an online ceremony to launch the first tram link between two Mariupol districts following long preparations. The tram service in the city stopped operation in the first months of 2022 due to damage to the public transport infrastructure during hostilities.*jk
