Donetsk, Nov 8 – DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic has already issued passports to 26,500 residents, DPR Migration Service chief Vladimir Krasnoshchioka told Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.

“As of today, the Migration Service of the DPR Interior Ministry has issued 26,500 passports of citizen of the Donetsk People’s Republic,” Krasnoshchioka said. “The larger part of IDs, some 22,000, has been issued within the past three months.”

The official noted that as of 8 November 2016, more than 33,000 applications from residents for receiving DPR passports are being processed.

DPR began to issue passports on 16 March 2016. The first 20 citizens received DPR passports personally from DPR Head Aleksandr Zakharchenko. The authorities said that the residents who had turned 16, 25 and 45 years of age would be given priority in getting their passports, as well as those who lost their Ukrainian passports.

On June 21, Zakharchenko announced the beginning of a nation-wide campaign for issuing passports in the Republic.
