Donetsk, Mar 2 — DAN. The Donetsk government has approved the procedure to subsidize the safe-keeping costs for the unfinished Donetsk subway.

Maintenance works will be carried out by the Metropoliten utility company which will receive funding from the regional budget, according to Resolution No 9-13 published on the DPR government website.

The main budget money disburser is the Financial Department of the Donetsk City Hall. Subsidies will be used to cover the purchase and repairs of basic assets managed by the company, and pay the debts for the goods and services purchased in 2022.

The DPR government approved the resolution on February 28. It came into force on March 1 and is retroactive to January 1, 2023.

Donetsk launched a subway construction project in the 1990s. Initially, it planned to build three lines. The construction deadline, set for the 2000s was pushed back several times and the project was mothballed in 2011 as the authorities began to consider light rail transit or surface and undergrounds lines. In 2014, the City Hall said that the construction might resume if lasting peace came to the region.*jk
