Donetsk, Jun 27 - DAN. The sudden hacking attack on corporate, bank and government bodies computers in Ukraine clearly showed the low level of cybersecurity in the country, DPR Communications Minister Viktor Yatsenko said on Tuesday.

“Today at noon, a virus infected computer networks of large Ukrainian companies, including government systems. It can be said that the level of cybersecurity is very low in Ukraine, which amazes by its backwardness and corruption,” Yatsenko said.

According to the minister, the virus spreads quickly and disables computers utilising the Windows operating system; it reloads and encrypts files. Experts have not recorded a single virus infection case at the DPR Communications Ministry, he noted.

On Tuesday afternoon, a massive cyberattack hit computers at Ukrainian enterprises, banks, state-owned organisations and government bodies. The affected companies were Oschadbank, Ukrzaliznytsia, Nova Poshta,  the Epicentre-K and Auchan retailers, mobile operators Kyivstar, Life and Ukrtelecom as well as Ukrainian radio stations and television companies.*jk
