Donetsk, Sep 28 - DAN. About 200,000 people have got vaccinated against COVID-19 since the vaccine was supplied to the Donetsk People’s Republic, the DPR Healthcare Ministry told the Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.

“As of today, some 200,000 residents have taken covid vaccine shots,” the Ministry said.

The DPR launched immunization of the population on February 1, 2021 using Sputnik V and Sputnik Light vaccines supplied by Russia as part of humanitarian assistance.

Sputnik V is the first Russian vaccine against the coronavirus infection developed by the Gamaleya Research Centre. It is a two-dose viral vector vaccine registered on August 11, 2020. It is administered in two doses using various viral vectors which provokes primary and secondary immune response. A Gamaleya Research Centre representative rated its efficacy at 97.6 percent, based on analysis of the Sputnik V vaccination data in the period between December 5, 2020 and March 31, 2021.

Sputnik Light is a single dose COVID-19 vaccine showing 79.4% efficacy. Revaccination is required in six months. *jk
