Donetsk, Nov 14 — DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic has opened the first school for people with diabetes, said DPR Acting Healthcare Minister Dmitry Gartsev after visiting the new facility at the Donetsk Clinical Territorial Medical Association.

“The DPR Healthcare Ministry is drawing a regional program to combat diabetes mellitus. The school is the first stepping stone for people suffering from diabetes to improve their life, ” Gartsev wrote on Telegram.

He said that the initiative might be implemented in other districts of the DPR.

Diabetes is an endocrine disease characterized by high blood sugar levels.

Russia has more than five million diabetes patients, or 3 percent of the population; and appxlimiately as many have diabetes without knowing it. Another five million people are likely to develop the disease. Some 240,000 new cases of diabetes are reported in Russia ever year.*jk
