Donetsk, Jun 26 — DAN. Residents of the Donetsk People’s Republic have made the dream of the Republic’s first Head Alexander Zakharchenko come true as Donbass is now back home in Russia, said DPR Acting Head Denis Pushilin on the occasion of Zakharchenko’s birthdate who would have turned 47 on Monday.

“Alexander Vladimirovich consistently defended Donbass interests vying for the freedom of the Republic, ” Pushilin said in a post on his Telegram channel. “He exemplified the Donbass steely mettle, being a true leader and patriot.”

“We’ve made Alexander Zakharchenko’s dream come true: Donbass is now back home in Russia. It’s a pity he has not lived to see this historical moment, but his cause lives on, ” he said.

Alexander Zakharchenko is one of the leaders of the protest movement in Donbass in 2014, the first Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic. He opposed the illegitimate Kiev authorities and took part in the Donbass conflict as a DPR militia unit commander. He was wounded several times. He received the Golden Star of Hero of the Republic and other decorations, and held the rank of Major General.

On August 8, 2014 Zakharchenko was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers by the DPR Supreme Council. On November 2, 2014, he was elected head of the Republic winning more than 75 percent of votes.  Zakharchenko was killed in a terrorist attack on August 31, 2018.*jk
