Donetsk, Sep 7 - DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic parliament met on Friday to appoint its speaker Denis Pushilin acting Head of the Republic. A majority of the lawmakers supported the decision.

“People’s Council chairman Denis Pushilin is appointed interim Head of the Republic,” said his deputy Olga Makeyeva announcing the decision.

Earlier reports said that the lawmakers had terminated the powers of DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko in connection with this death.

Also on Friday, acting DPR Prosecutor General Andrey Spivak submitted a statement to the parliament stating the need to appoint the interim Head of the Republic, form the Council of Ministers and the Central Election Commission and create all conditions for holding a snap election in the Republic.

DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko was killed in an explosion in central Donetsk on August 31. In the contingency, Council of Ministers deputy chairman Dmitriy Trapeznikov stepped in to perform DPR Head’s duties.*jk
