Donetsk, Jun 13 — DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic is ready to begin the election process expecting the decision by the Central Election Commission, member of the presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, DPR parliamentarian Yelena Shishkina said on Tuesday.

“We’re awaiting permission from the CEC to launch the election campaign because of the martial law in our region and (and all the) new regions, ” Shishkina said.

The Republic’s legal system has already been adapted to federal laws, she said adding that the DPR planned to complete the voting within three days.  The DPR will elect deputies to the parliament and the councils of 12 towns and 18 municipal districts. “As the election draws closer, a decision will be made after consultations with the Russian Defense Ministry on whether it will be online or onsite voting, because people’s life and health have priority, ” she said.

In May, President Vladimir Putin signed a law on elections in the regions under martial law, to enable the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to elect deputies to the regional parliaments.*jk
