Donetsk, Mar 16 - DAN. Residents of Donbass and Crimea have given a fitting response to Ukraine’s attempts to sever the traditional ties between these regions and Russia, Donetsk People’s Republic Head Denis Pushilin said at a meeting marking Day of Crimea’s Reunification with Russia.

“Donbass has given a fitting answer to Ukrainian neo-Nazis’ attempts to sever the long-standing ties with Russia, as has Crimea,” Pushilin’s official website quoted him as saying. “Up to date we continue to defend our choice and the ardent striving towards returning to our historical roots.”

The DPR leader added that seven years ago, Crimea won a historic victory when the Russian flag was hoisted over the peninsula. Today, Crimea, as a part of Russia, steadily follows the course towards stability and prosperity.

“Russian Donbass will surely win. Because we have your support and the assistance of true friends and like-minded persons.  The wish of the Republic’s residents is most important. We are consolidated by one goal: to cast our lot with the Russian people. Our historical fate is only with Russia,” Denis Pushilin said.

The meeting was held in the Republic of Crimea State Council building in Simferopol. It was attended by Crimea Head Sergey Aksyonov, deputy representative of the Russian President in the South Federal District Kirill Stepanov, parliamentarians, regional governors, government officials, heads of Russian executive bodies and people’s militia commanders and fighters.

Earlier reports on Tuesday said that the DPR Head arrived in Simferopol on a visit to take part in the festivities marking the 7th anniversary of the Crimean referendum of 2014 and Day of Crimea’s Reunification with Russia.

At the All-Crimea Referendum on March 16, 2014, more than 95 percent of peninsula residents voted for reunification with Russia. Two days later, a historic agreement was signed in Moscow on two new territorial entities - the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol - joining the Russian Federation.*jk*pp
