Donetsk, Jun 15 — DAN. Russia’s Central Election Commission has decided to hold elections in the new regions this autumn.

“CEC members supported the draft resolution on parliamentary and municipal elections in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, ” the Commision said in a live stream on Thursday.

“We understand the significance of stability, confidence in the future and democratically elected government bodies in the new territories, ” CEC chairperson Ella Pamfilova said adding that as a rule, elections are not held in the regions under martial law.

The Russian Defense Ministry and Federal Security Service have given their preliminary approval, she said.

Earlier this week, DPR parliamentarian Yelena Shishkina said that the Republic was ready to launch the election processes.

On September 10 which is Single Voting Day in Russia, the DPR will hold elections to the People’s Council (parliament) and municipal bodies. The voting can last for up to three days.*jk
