Donetsk, Sep 29 — DAN. The girl who planted an improvised explosive device by a voting station in Mariupol during the referendum was on assignment from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Donetsk People’s Republic Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
Reports on September 27 said that police had prevented a terrorist attack on a polling station in Mariupol.
The girl detained by DPR police said that “Ukrainian secret service officers recruited her as she was crossing a border checkpoint, ” the Interior Ministry said. “Her former compatriots from the SBU priced Mariupol civilians’ lives at a mere 100,000 hryvnas.”
When the girl was in the Republic, SBU agents got in touch with her to give her the coordinates of an explosives cache. She picked up an improvised explosive device and a remote control unit. The bomb contained about of kilogram of TNT and submunition. She delivered the bomb to a city district administration but police detained her before she could set it off.
“Police found interesting things in the apartment where he had lived; investigators are now examining them. The mother of the failed terrorist is married to a Ukrainian armed formation member and lives in Zaporozhye. The girl has been living with her grandmother in Mariupol. The elderly relative was shocked to hear the news about her grand-daughter, ” the DPR Interior Ministry said.
The suspect’s actions are covered by DPR Criminal Code Article 29 and Article 229 (attempted act of terror) which carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.*jk
