Donetsk, Apr 21 — DAN. A Gorlovka resident recruited by a Ukrainian secret service has been preparing to assassinate town mayor Ivan Prikhodko, the press service of the Federal Security Service Department for the Donetsk People’s Republic said on Friday.

“Gorlovka resident Artyom Pyzin came under FSB surveillance as was he recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), ” the press service told the Donetsk News Agency. “In March, he was told to watch town mayor Ivan Prikhodko’ routes of movement and places he visited. Following SBU instructions, Pyzin tried to assemble a bomb in an abandoned house, but the device exploded in his hands.”

The man was killed on the spot. The FSB is ascertaining the identities of all crime organizers and participants, the FSB said.

On March 27, Mariupol police chief Mikhail Moskvin survived an assassination attempt. A group of SBU-recruited suspects was detained in the case. According to investigators, one of the perpetrators set off a homemade bomb which had been fixed to the bottom of Moskvin’s car. The police officer was lightly wounded in the explosion.*jk
