Donetsk, Apr 25 — DAN. Russia’s Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport (Rosmorrechflot) is working together with Donetsk People’s Republic authorities on expanding the capabilities of the Mariupol seaport, Rosmorrechflot Head Zakhary Dzhioyev told the Donetsk News Agency.

“Of the 18 loading terminals in the Mariupol port, 14 can be used in port activities. These are universal terminals which can handle any types of cargoes, ” Dzhioyev said. “The port’s throughput capacity is 3.4 million tons a year. The opportunity to expand is capabilities depends on the region’s needs for incoming or outgoing cargoes.”

“We’re actively working with the region on this issue, ” he added.

Fuel unloading is only possible under the ship to truck transfer scheme, while construction materials can be unloaded to outdoor storage areas, the Rosmorrechflot official said. Earlier, Dzhioyev said that 1.3 billion rubles would be allocated for Mariupol port repairs this year. The port’s navigation safety systems will be restored.

The Mariupol port resumed operation in late May 2022 as it dispatched the first vessel with a load of metal products to the Rostov region.   The seaport is expected to become the key transit point for cargoes needed for rebuilding the region. It will also be used for exporting DPR products. Last summer, a ferry link with Yeisk was launched.*jk
