Donetsk, Apr 5 — DAN. Funding for Mariupol seaport repairs will reach 1.3 billion rubles this year, Head of the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport Zakhary Dzhioyev told the Donetsk News Agency.

“According to current estimates, Piers No 2 and 3 need renovation, waterworks need an inspection and technical passports and the vessels which were sunk at Piers No 1 and 5 must be removed, ” Dzhioyev said adding that port facilities had to be rebuilt and that an equipment refresh was needed.

Earlier reports said that railway infrastructure had been restored at the Mariupol port.

The Mariupol port resumed operation in late May 2022 as it dispatched the first vessel with a load of metal products to the Rostov region.   The seaport is expected to become the key transit point for cargoes needed for rebuilding the region. It will also be used for exporting DPR products. Last summer a ferry link with Yeisk was launched.*jk
