Donetsk, Feb 17 - DAN. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky imitates vigorous activity to hide the lack of political will to settle the Donbass conflict,” head of the Donetsk Republic social movement Central Executive Committee Alexey Muratov said on Monday.
On February 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation over the Donbass conflict settlement, asked his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky if Kiev planned to implement the Minsk Agreements in deed. The official reports did not say what Zelensky answered, but on the following day, Zelensky, in his speech at the Munich Security Conference, made it clear that Ukraine would continue to look for ways to dodge its commitments fixed by the UN Security Council resolution and other international documents.
“(Zelensky - eds Donetsk News Agency) continues making hectic proposals to set up joint patrols, use “Croatian” experience and forcefully reintegrate Donbass with the deportation and mop-up of local population. At the same time, he says that he has no intention to talk with the Republics’ representatives. Consequently, this sophistry is nothing more than an attempt to imitate vigorous activity in order to hide one’s political weakness and inability to achieve peace in principle,” Muratov said.
He also reminded that the Minsk accords were signed as Kiev suffered heavy military casualties and aimed to deescalate violence to diplomatic settlement of the conflict. The accords in effect fixed special status of Donbass and regulated the relevant political procedure. At the “Normandy Four” meeting in December 2019, Zelensky confirmed Kiev’s commitment to implement the Minsk Agreements, but his subsequent statements began to contradict the summit declaration.*jk
