Donetsk, Dec 13 – DAN. Kiev's attempts to amend the Minsk Agreements prove its responsibility for systematic failures to commit to the settlement, said the director of the Center for Current Politics Alexey Chesnakov.
Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky said earlier that Kiev must ensure the revision of the Minsk Agreements though it is a difficult task. Ukraine's representative at the Minsk talks said Kiev shall prepare the suggested amendments before the next Normandy Four summit.
"Such statements should be treated without any circumstantial justifications. Their content is unacceptable and their form is another proof that Kiev is responsible for the five-year failure to implement the Minsk-2," Chesnakov said.
"The changes are impossible without the fixation of Kiev's political and legal responsibility for the disruption of peace settlement.
"The price is known. Not only Ukraine will have to pay but also Europe. The EU will have to compensate Russia for sanction that had been in place for four years in connection with Minsk-2 non-fulfillment. It's impossible to hold one side responsible if the other side dismisses the agreement publicly".
Donetsk People’s Republic envoy to the Contact Group talks, the Republic’s Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova said on Thursday that Kiev officials’ remarks stating the intention to re-write the Minsk agreements, made just two days after the “Normandy Four” leaders’ summit, cause bewilderment, because the Ukrainian president confirmed at the summit that the existing peace plan had no alternative. *ot
