Donetsk, Jan 25 – DAN. DPR Ombudswoman Daria Morozova together with the ICRC visited a Republican penitentiary and checked the living conditions of Kiev detainees, the Ombudswoman press service said.

"Today together with the ICRC representatives Daria Morozova visited a Republican penitentiary where Ukrainian detainees live. The visit showed DPR transparent approach towards international missions and community."

The mandate of the ICRC allows its representatives to monitor the conditions in which captives are held, to pass them letters from their families and to talk to Ukrainian prisoners.

"We hope that such visits will facilitate the soonest POW swap and our guys as well as Ukrainian servicemen would be able to return to their homes," the statement reads.

The living conditions of the penitentiary did not raise concerns of the mission head, head of the ICRC legal aid department Rocco Messina.

DPR authorities regularly monitor the living conditions of Ukrainian detainees inviting international missions to join the visits. In particular, Tony Frisch, a coordinator at the humanitarian subgroup of the Contact Group, and Fiona Frazer, the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, earlier monitored DPR detention centers. *ot
