Donetsk, Dec 22 — DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic Supreme Court has given a 28-year prison term to a Ukrainian gunman for involvement in attacks on Donbass civilians and infrastructure, Russia’s Investigative Committee (SK) reported on Friday.
In a trial in absentia, Private First Class Yevgeny Poptsov (of the Ukrainian army’s 17th Tank Brigade) was found guilty of cruel treatment of civilians and use of banned methods in armed conflict, the SK said adding that the convicted person was on the international wanted list.
In the period from February 24 to March 10, 2022, Poptsov and his colleagues fired at last 15 fragmentation shells at residential areas in Sartana, Sakhanka, Talakovka and Stary Krym killing a 17-year-old youth and injuring a woman. Forty-two homes and two cars were damaged or destroyed in the attacks.
