Donetsk, Nov 24 — DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic Supreme Court has given 13-year jail terms to two Ukrainian servicemen who fired mortars at civilians’ homes in the Novoazovsk district, the press service of the DPR Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday.

“36th Marine Brigade servicemen Maxim Polegenko, 28 and Stanislav Voitok, 32 were found guilty of cruel treatment of civilians in occupied territory, ” The DRP Territorial Defense Headquarters said citing the prosecutors’ report. 

In the period from August to September 2019, Polegenko and Voitok, together with other gunmen, fired mortars at civilians’ homes in the villages of Oktyabr and Kominternovo in the DPR’s Novoazovsk district. A woman was hurt and 14 houses were damaged in mortar fire.

The marines will serve their sentences in a maximum security penitentiary.

Earlier reports said that an “Azov” regiment gunman had been sentenced to life in prison for killing five civilians in Mariupol.*jk
