Donetsk, Jun 29 — Russia’s Investigative Committee (SK) is looking into the participation in hostilities of mercenaries from 33 countries who sided with Ukrainian nationalists, the SK press service reported on Thursday.
“The SK continues the investigation into the criminal case over facts of recruiting and participation in combat on the side of Ukrainian armed formations, ” the press service said following the Investigative Committee session in Donetsk chaired by SK Head Alexander Bastrykin. “At present, the SK is prosecuting 160 foreigners from 33 countries.”
The Defense Ministry, jointly with security services, has gathered proof of the involvement of mercenaries from Georgia, the USA, Latvia and Sweden, the SK said.
Reports in May said that the SK had information on more than 2,000 mercenaries from 71 countries fighting for the Kiev regime. Investigators also obtained data on mercenaries who arrived in Ukraine from Great Britain, Syria, Canada and other countries.*jk
