Donetsk, Nov 30 — DAN. The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic has passed a life sentence on a Ukrainian army gunman for killing Mariupol residents last year, Russia’s Investigative Committee (SK) reported on Thursday.

“The Court said that the evidence gathered by the SK was sufficient for passing a guilty verdict on 36th Marine Brigade driver Ivan Taran, ” the report said.

In March-April 2022, Taran and rifleman Danilov, alternatively fired their weapons at eight people under the orders to block the evacuation of residents. Seven civilians were killed on the spot; one woman managed to escape.

Taran was found guilty of the use of banned means and methods of warfare, multiple murder and attempted murder. He will serve a life sentence in a maximum security prison.

Earlier this month, the SK reported the sentencing of four Ukrainian servicemen who killed eight civilians in Mariuipol in 2022.*jk
