Donetsk, Dec 22 – DAN. Ukrainian military have resumed shelling of Debaltsevo area, acting town administration head Aleksandr Reingold told Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.
“Shelling resumed near the contact line and in Debaltsevo area,” Reingold said.
A DPR defence source said Ukrainian forces fired 380 122mm and 152mm artillery rounds and 120mm and 82mm mortar rounds in this sector of the contact line over the past 24 hours.
According to the mayor, the situation in the town remains calm with all social services operating as usual.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian forces shelled Debaltsevo neighbourhoods for the first time since February 2015, damaging three houses. One house in the outskirts was completely destroyed.
On 18 December 2016, Ukrainian forces attempted to break through LPR People’s Militia defence lines in Kalinovka village area outside Debaltsevo. As the attack began, Ukrainian units simultaneously shelled DPR forces to penetrate their defence.
DPR and LPR forces, positioned close to each other at this juncture, thwarted the enemy attack by combined efforts. Ukrainian military continued to shell DPR militia positions and neighbourhoods afterwards. *jk
