Donetsk, Jan 12 – DAN. Ukrainian forces opened fire at Donetsk water treatment plant infrastructure on 11 January evening damaging a high voltage line and causing blackout of the facility, the press service of the DPR Coal and Energy Ministry said on Thursday.
“A Ministry’s duty officer reported damage to a 110 kilowatt line at 8:45 p.m. on 11 January causing power outage at the substation which supplied electricity to the water treatment plant,” the report said.
The ministry asked OSCE Monitoring Mission representatives to ensure a ceasefire for inspecting the electricity line and effecting repairs.
“Repairs will commence as soon as the situation allows,” the Ministry said.
Donetsk water treatment plant is located between Kiev-controlled Avdeyevka and Yasinovataya. It supplies water to both sides of the contact line, such as DPR-controlled Donetsk and Yasinovataya, Vasilyevka and Spartak villages and Ukraine-occupied Avdeyevka, Krasnogorovka and Verkhnetoretskoye village. *jk
