Donetsk, Sep 4 -DAN. Ukrainian education reforms are dismantling national science, Donetsk People’s Republic parliament deputy speaker Olga Makeyeva told the Donetsk News Agency during school No 54 celebratory assembly on Tuesday.
Ukraine implemented education reforms after (president Petr) Poroshenko came to power. The number of higher education centres in Ukraine has been cut from 802 to 317 since 2014, the number of schools has fallen by 5 percent and state subsidies for training specialists have been reduced as well. As a result, the country experiences a shortage of professionals and has to resort to unskilled substitution. For example, in the Nikolayev region, maths and physics classes in several schools are conducted by primary school teachers or their colleagues specialising in Ukrainian language, history and psychology.*jk
