Donetsk, Jan 20 — DAN. Shakhtyorsk authorities will introduce changes to its urban development master plan for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Town Hall officials told the Donetsk News Agency on Friday.
“We plan to adjust the town and district master plan with the assistance from the Sakhalin region as the document has not seen changes for more than 40 years and is no longer true to life, ” a Town Hall official said.
The adjustment will enable the local authorities to plan urban development and attract potential investors, he added.
Master Plan sets research-backed guidelines for town development in the years to come. After its approval it becomes the top town building document on which all planning and construction projects are based. It covers development prospects, general layout, construction specifics, public transport system, land use engineering, provision of amenities, landscaping etc.
Shakhtyorsk, founded in 1953, is located 60 kilometers from Donetsk in the east of the Donetsk People’s Republic. The town is at 200 meters above the sea level, one of the highest points in the Republic. It borders Snezhnoye, Torez, Khartsyzsk, Yenakiyevo, Makeyevka, Zhdanovka, Kirovsk, Zugres, Debaltsevo, Ilovaisk and Amvrosiyevka District. In 2021, Shakhtyorsk was awarded the honorary title of “Town of Military Glory.” *jk
