Donetsk, Sep 19 — DAN. Russian parliamentarians have supported the president’s proposal to establish a commemorative date in honor of the new regions’ reunification with Russia.

Lawmakers voted at a live-streamed session on Tuesday for the document presented by presidential representative in parliament Garry Minkh.

“The State Duma Defense Committee supports the concept of the lawbill, because the day of reunification of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions with Russia is the key event in Russia’s recent history, ” committee chairman Andrey Kartapolov said.

Lawmakers approved the first reading of the document; as many as 409 supported the lawbill concept.

President Vladimir Putin earlier proposed to make September 30 a commemorative date honoring the new territories' accession to Russia by amending the Federal Law On Russia’s Days of Military Glory and Commemorative Dates. DPR Acting Head Denis Pushilin said that September 30 had been a cherished dream for residents of the region which had come true. *jk
