Donetsk, May 2 — DAN. St Petersburg has restored 26 facilities in the sponsored Mariupol and is completing the rebuilding of another 44, St Petersburg governor Alexander Beglov reported to President Vladimir Putin at the tram service resumption ceremony in Mariupol on Tuesday.

“We already have (Mariupol rebuilding) results: we’ve done 26 facilities, and are completing the repairs of 44; another 70 projects are in the works, ” Beglov said during online broadcasting on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel.

Special attention is paid to social infrastructure facilities: three schools for 2,100 pupils and three kindergartens for 750 children had been restored by September 1. Local teachers took training courses in St Petersburg for transition to new education standards, while 1,800 schoolchildren travelled to Russia’s second largest city for recreation during school holidays, he said.

Mariupol is the largest city on the Sea of Azov coast, a key Donbass metallurgy center and seaport. It was liberated from Ukrainian troops on April 21, 2022. The city housing  stock and infrastructure sustained significant damage. Fifteen Russian regions, including twin city St Petersburg are helping Mariupol to rebuild its infrastructure.*jk
