Donetsk, Apr 12 — DAN. Thirty-four Donetsk People’s Republic servicemen were released from Ukrainian captivity in the April 10 prisoner exchange, DPR ombudsperson Darya Morozova said on Wednesday.
The group includes both professional and mobilized servicemen. Many are in serious condition; one is an amputee and another three needed urgent medical help, Morozova said.
“A 32-year-old fighter is paralyzed, he’s been bedridden since he was wounded. He has been in captivity since last May. He did not receive proper medical treatment and was kept in a cell together with other POWs who were taking care of him. It took long months to negotiate his release because Ukrainian representatives kept putting spokes in our wheels, ” the ombudsperson said.
Just a part of these servicemen would be sent back home in the near future; the rest will continue rehabilitation in Russian regions. “Some guys cannot be transported, and will be able to return to the DPR only after treatment, ” she said.
Earlier reports said that 106 Russian servicemen returned from Ukrainian captivity on April 10 following talks between Kiev and Moscow.*jk
