Makeyevka, May 22 — DAN. Novoazovsk authorities plan to turn the 22-hectare central embankment into the main place of interest of the maritime town, mayor Alexander Balandin said at the first session of the Interdepartmental Commission on Modern Urban Environment.
Balandin who presented a project on developing Schmidt Alley (along the Embankment, from 60 Let SSR Street to Bryukhnov Street) said that “Novoazovsk residents constantly use it for evening walks.”
“It (after renovation — eds Donetsk News Agency) might become the key place for public events, which will make it more attractive for all residents from nearby settlements, ” he said.
The project initially envisioned four phases but its updated version cuts them to two to shorten the period of implementation. Overall, it is planned to develop 22 hectares of the Embankment. The project objective is to open a beautiful view of the sea and provide convenient access to the beach. An amphitheater will be built the of end of the ramp leading down to the sea. Plans are in place for additional green zones and parking lots, terraces, sport grounds, children’s playgrounds and places of quiet rest.
Head of the town department for urban construction and architecture Irina Goltvenko raised the issue of cleaning the beach of silt deposits which she said had priority in project implementation.
Deputy chairman of the Donetsk People’s Republic government Andrey Chertkov suggested the idea of building a large stage and a theatre as part of the project, in order to make Novoazovsk a place of attraction for talented people and investors.*jk
