Donetsk, Jun 20 - DAN. Ukraine is unable to block DPR television channels’ broadcasts in Kiev-controlled areas, DPR Communications Minister Viktor Yatsenko said on Tuesday.

“Ukraine has been making all efforts toward jamming our signal but it apparently lacks technical and financial capability to do so,” Yatsenko said in a statement received by Donetsk News Agency. “The public statements by certain politicians about failed attempts to install jamming equipment at the television towers in Slavyansk and Avdeyevka are another proof of the fact.”

Yatsenko said that Ukrainian authorities are using all ways to encroach upon people’s freedom of expression and freedom of choice taking a tough censorship line. Residents of Kiev-controlled territories nevertheless watch DPR channels and know about current events in the republic and its ongoing humanitarian programme for Donbass people reunification.

“All the attempts to interfere with quality broadcasting for Ukraine by our television channels show that Kiev sees it as a real threat, fearing that our fellow countrymen will stop trusting mendacious propaganda and choose the right side,” Yatsenko said.

He added that Ministry specialists work on improving the quality of broadcasting and expanding the broadcast area every day.

In March 2017, DPR and Russian channels launched broadcasts for Kiev-controlled territory in the former Donetsk Region and neighbouring Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye and Kharkov regions. The welfare and government services centres operating as part of the Donbass people reunification humanitarian programme provide detailed instructions on tuning to DPR television channels.*jk
