Donetsk, Dec 13 – DAN. Ukrainian forces shelled Donetsk water treatment plant (DFS) area more than 30 times over the past month.

“Last month alone, we recorded at least 30 DFS area shelling incidents, and DFS premises were hit several times,” said Konstantin Akulov who is charge of DFS Yasinovatskiy stretch.

DFS stores 3.5 to 4 tons of chlorine, and “breaches of chlorine containers will cause harmful emissions into the atmosphere and soil,” Akulov said. “Krutaya Balka and Vasilyevka villages and Avdeyevka and Yasinovataya outskirts will find themselves will be in contaminated area.”

Donetsk water treatment plant, located between Yasinovataya and Kiev-controlled Avdeyevka has long been a trouble spot on the contact line in Donbass. DFS repeatedly came under fire and suspended operation.

On Tuesday, DFS was visited by OSCE SMM Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug, Russian officers in the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) and DPR Operations Command representatives. *jk
