Donetsk, Jun 29 — DAN. Thirty-three public spaces in 20 towns of the Donetsk People’s Republic have been selected for development as part of the federal project “Comfortable Urban Environment, ” the DPR Construction and Utilities Ministry press service said on Thursday.
It is the first the DPR has taken part in the president’s proposed contest of initiatives to create attractive urban areas. The public voting to select projects in the DPR ran from April 15 through May 31 and involved more than 70,000 people.
“The 33 selected public spaces will be developed in 2024 with the assistance of Russian sponsor regions, ” the press service said.
Overall, 85 public spaces in 20 towns and districts of the Republic were proposed for improvement by local administrations and residents in the period from January 30 to February 17, 2023.
The initial participants were ten towns: Yenakiyevo, Zugres, Ilovaisk, Kirovskoye, Komsomolskoye, Novoazovsk, Snezhnoye, Torez, Khartsyzsk and Shakhtyorsk. Later on, a decision was made to expand the list due to considerable public interest, which was supported by Russia’s Construction Ministry.
The all-Russian urban environment contest was launched in 2018 at the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It supports projects to create quality public spaces in small towns and historical settlements. Annual federal budget allocations to contest winners total ten billion rubles.*jk
