Donetsk, Sep 25 — DAN. The Russian Ministry of Education and Science has announced the start of the 2nd international cybersport tournament “Battle for Science” and invited students from the Donetsk People’s Republic to participate.

The organizers hope for many applications from DPR students, the Ministry’s press service told the Donetsk News Agency.

Compared with the 2021 tournament, the number of games has increased to eight (DOTA 2, League of Legends, World of Tanks,  Tanks Blitz, Valorant, PUBG, Caliber и Standoff); many of them were produced in Russia. 

“We understand that the promotion of science and higher education cannot ignore cybersports, ” the press service quoted Deputy Science and Education Minister Olga Petrova as saying. “Responding to students’ request, we decided to hold a tournament to present the achievements of our scientists.”

The tournament is actually a festival which includes cybersport surveys. Importantly, it helps preserve historical truth which is sometimes distorted by developers, she said.

Qualification games will run from September 27 to November 5. Playoffs will take place on November 11-12. The winners in six program events will be announced on November 17. Dota 2 and Word of Tanks LAN format grand finals will take place at the “Russia” international exhibition forum on November 18.

The international student cybersport festival “Battle for Science” is sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the federal project for promotion of science and technology. Battle of Science 2021 involved more than 1,500 players from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The tournament audience topped ten million people.*jk
