Donetsk, Dec 25 - DAN. Phoenix, DPR’s first mobile operator, has launched a 3G network; closed-loop testing of the new service is underway, the Republic’s Communications Ministry press service said on Monday.
“Mobile operator Phoenix has integrated new switchgear into its network to put 3G data transfer technology in operation,” the press service said.
Phoenix Director Andrei Rudnichenko said that the 3G network was in a test mode at present and could not immediately provide the whole range of services. “Only 3G data transfer is functioning; voice traffic and SMS messaging are unavailable,” the press service quoted him as saying.
3G employs UMTS (W-CDMA) standard and HSDPA data transfer. Phoenix engineers are now working on improving the current transfer speed value of 2 Mb/s. *jk
