Donetsk, Sep 17 - DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic militiaman Roman Dzhumayev, killed in his apartment in Mariupol, was on the prisoner exchange list, DPR ombudswoman Darya Morozova said on Tuesday.
On September 16, mass media outlets reported that unidentified attackers had shot and killed Dzhumayev in his apartment in Mariupol. He died before the ambulance arrived.
“Earlier, Ukrainian law-enforcement bodies charged him as a DPR supporter. He was entered on the list of persons due to be exchanged. This cynical murder shows disregard for human rights and freedoms, complete permissiveness and flouting of the law effective in the Ukrainian territory,” the ombudswoman said.
Morozova also noted an increase in the number of cases of violence in Ukraine due to political disagreements.
Dzhumayev joined the DPR militia in August 2014. He took part in the fighting for Debaltsevo and the Donetsk airport. In September 2017, he was detained by agents of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Maryinka area outside Donetsk as he was crossing the contact line. In January 2018, he was arrested on charge of terrorism, but then placed under house arrest.*jk
