Donetsk, Aug 16 – DAN. DPR medics have performed five endoprosthesis replacements on hip joints for residents of Kiev-controlled territories of the Donetsk region, said the head non-staff trauma orthopaedist of the DPR Health Ministry Alexander Blinov.

"Today's arthroplasty on hip joint was the fifth within the framework of the humanitarian program. Another two are scheduled. Replacing hip joints is one of the most challenging in orthopaedics. Implants help people to return to normal life, to activity."

The patients acknowledged the high level of DPR medics' proficiency.

"I fell of the stairs, first time when I was young, it happened at work, for the second time it happened at home, in 2015. The hip joint was affected. In the town where I come from there is no hospital or doctors who can perform such surgeries. And in Kiev or Kharkov it is far too expensive, I couldn't afford it," a 77-year-old patient from Ukraine said.

"In Donetsk I was received warmly, I had a surgery yesterday. It's unbelievable but I feel like I'm on vacation. I am really grateful to doctors."

Overall, 115 residents of Ukraine were provided aid in DPR hospitals.

On February 17 DPR and LPR Heads approved the humanitarian aid program aimed to assist people living in Kiev-controlled territories. The main objective is to provide financial aid and educational assistance to vulnerable social groups. Medical assistance is provided as well. On February 21 the program was officially presented to people, hotlines and websites associated with the program were launched.*ot
